This is such a great narration of the thought process and emotional journey of injury and recovery. The section at the bottom about the hospital not being a healing place is spot on! As one who has sat through hours and days both in the bed and at the bedside your observation of the purpose of the space is exact, but also your description of the mental challenge and emotional risk of injury and treatment and recovery are perfect.
Ordinary life can feel pretty easy after a serious injury because we know how bad it can be, and that makes it so much easier to appreciate how good it is. Until the next time we have to straddle the gate because of the asshole dog.
Thanks for the worthy tale, well told.
