How Do You Win a Rigged Game? Don’t Play

The next Greatest Generation is showing us what it really means to be a “good American” by working to change the game entirely.

When the game they present you is rigged, you have two choices: 1) play their game knowing that you will absolutely never win big, but you might not lose big, or 2) play a different game.

What Different Game?

To escape the game we’re all trapped in requires several choices. First , you have to stop complaining about the game and quietly learn everything about it. Only if you know the rules can you find a loophole in them. (Consider the successful loophole navigation of the New England Patriots.)

Second, you must not allow yourself to believe that the current game can be won. Learning everything you can about the game can lead you to believe that you could actually win. Ask any marginalized community about the illusion of the possibility of winning the game we’re all in now. It’s only designed for some to do better, others worse, and the designers are still the real winners.

Third, you have to steel yourself for the inevitable pushback from everyone who still believes in the game. You will have a very difficult time convincing most people that everything they were told would lead to success is somewhere between a bold faced lie and a glass ceiling creating the illusion of upward mobility.
